Preparing food for the Juneau to Atlin

Exiting the Fixed-Wing with a small mountain of gear

EXPEDITIONS

Expedition Logistics and Support
We are starting to build an extensive knowledge of the region and those areas perfect for kiting expeditions. Living in Whitehorse gives us the opportunity to search maps, talk to the right people and deal with the general logistics of getting up onto the Icefields and surviving once there.

As yet we cannot provide guided expeditions, however we have plans to do so. Whether you want to spend a week in an RV in the White Pass or kite across one of the Icefields. Kite Yukon can provide a logistics and support service, suggest locations, research routes and evaluate gear requirements based on your goals and expectations. Contact us to discuss ideas and pricing.

2007 Mount Logan Basecamp
Kite Yukon is planning a spring session at the base of Mount Logan, Canada's highest peak and the home of the largest non-polar ice cap in the world. The icefield is close to 180kms long, with amazing wide open plains to steep skiable terrain features. And, to top it all off - an incredibly deep snow pack. A snow-kiter's wet dream!

The same team that completed the Juneau to Atlin trip in 2006 is involved. Billy "Swede" Söderin and Craig "Kiwi" Donovan will be joining locals Seth, Cath and Jim. Yeup - again we will be kiting with a vegetable and a fruit!

This time our plan is simple. We have no grand goal, no need to make the miles each day and hence no need to drag about gear. The idea is to take a wall tent, dig this into the snow so that we have a communal living area and kite right out the front door. On those days without wind we plan to be within easy reach of good ski touring. Pure decadence! With no great purpose other than to try and feed that hedonistic urge for self gratification - in this case through excessive amounts of kiting and skiing.

2006 Juneau to Atlin Kite Traverse

In April 2006 we completed the 110km Juneau, Alaska to Atlin, BC traverse by kite - a first! Read the Kiwi's article on Biglines >>
