WHY KITE? Snow kiting is an exciting and exhilarating winter sport that is no longer considered a fringe activity of those extreme. The sport continues to grow and be fuelled by the fact that any snow covered open terrain has the potential to be kiting country. Farmers' fields, frozen lakes or rolling backcountry once benign and uninteresting landscapes are now transformed into tantalising playgrounds. The sport is growing from strength to strength. There are expeditions to the South Pole using off-the-shelf foil kites. Greenland has been crossed and the remote fjords of Baffin Island have been explored by kite. Once the basic skills are mastered, it is a considerably safe sport ideal for Skiing or Snowboarding, though we have found that learning on skis is a little easier due to the greater freedom of movement skis afford. You will need to have a good level of fitness and be an intermediate rider to take full advantage of the learning process. The natural power of the wind is a grace from the gods and best of all it is free! As kiting starts to cloud your thoughts you will begin to look about you with renewed vigour. Every flag, every tree becomes a wind indicator, you will catch yourself trying to gauge the wind strength when driving down the road and searching the horizon for a sign of something fluttering in the breeze. You will feel cheated on no wind days and start accusing you friends of being a wind Jonah. You will be consumed by the need to get out and kite. Come join us!
